Madison Orientation Adventure Trip - $225.00

MOAT is a 4-day adventure-based orientation program. The MOAT experience is designed to give you an opportunity to build social connections with other trip members and introduce you to the amazing local natural areas surrounding Harrisonburg.

These student-led trip begins at 4pm on Saturday, August 18, 2018 and ends on Tuesday, August 21, 2018. All MOAT participants will be able to move-in to their residence halls early on Saturday. You will meet your leaders and other participants at UREC, then head to a basecamp site where all trips will be based. All trips will involve primitive camping. You will participate in a team-building experience on our high and low challenge course. Additionally, students may choose to rock climb, canoe, stand up paddleboard, or mountain bike. MOAT trips do not require any previous experience.

Since newly-committed students will not have an active JMU E-ID and password at this point, please create a guest account (in the student's name).

MOAT Cancellation and Refund Policy

Occasionally, we have to cancel MOAT trips due to low enrollment or other factors. In the event this happens, participants may choose to transfer to another MOAT trip or receive a full refund. Decisions regarding cancellations will be made seven days prior to the trip. It is suggested that participants who will be flying to Harrisonburg purchase travel insurance in the event of a trip cancellation. Requests to cancel a MOAT trip registration will be handled on a case by case basis. Generally, requests made 10 days or less from the start of the trip will not be refunded.

On Saturday you will spend the day packing up, traveling to Stokesville, and setting up camp. Followed by some team building activities and a dip in the swimming hole. Dinner and a campfire will end day one. Over the next two days you will spend a half day on our high and low challenge course capped off by a hike up Lookout Mountain and a full day canoeing. On Tuesday you will pack up and head back to campus to clean up before returning to your residence hall. All trips will involve primitive camping. MOAT trips not require any previous experience.
