Is your child ready for something new this summer? Give them the chance to try new things, spend a lot of time outdoors, make new friends, and work on overcoming challenges!

Kids will learn how read basic river features, kayaking safety, kayaking strokes, and manuvering in class I/II whitewater. UREC's indoor aquatics center will be used for basic instruction on the first day and in the event of inclement weather. The remainder of the days will be spent on local rivers like the James and Shenandoah. This camp includes one overnight camping trip on Thursday night.

Camp Counselors are trained JMU student employees. Lead Adventure Camp Counselors hold a Wilderness First Aid Certification. Camp is open to both JMU and non-JMU families.

Campers will need to bring their own packed lunch. Drop off (8:30-9am) and pick up (4-4:30pm) are both at UREC!

Please note that you will need to add a dependent to your account before registering your child for youth programs. If you are a JMU faculty/staff/student, your login is your JMU E-ID and JMU password. If you are not a JMU affiliate, please create a guest account! When logged in, click on your name link on the top right of this page. You will be directed to the “MY ACCOUNT” page. Scroll and click “ADD A DEPENDENT.” Once this is complete, you will be able to register your child for youth programs.

Refunds can be made up to six business days before the start of that camp week.
